  • Charles Bottomley

Charles Bottomley grew up in Orange County, California spending weekends and summers at the beach boogie boarding and surfing. In 1992 he moved to Oregon and was introduced to surfing the Pacific Northwest. He began shaping his first boards out of his garage. As a former woodworker and craftsman his first boards were hollow-core balsa wood. He started Honu Surfboard Designs and moved from the garage and basement to a shop with 2 shaping bays. His work now encompasses all styles and shapes of boards in foam, wood, and veneers.
  • Paul Jensen

Paul Jensen has been building his hollow wood boards for years using methods adapted and re-invented from various sources, including Tom Blake’s pioneering of the medium, all the way to airplane wing construction, resulting in a methodology that he could have chosen to keep to himself, but instead desired to share with the world through classes and open sharing of ideas. Today, you’ll hear of boards being built with the “Jensen Method” all over the world. Not much for compensation, but still cool, how many folk ever get a method named after them anyway?
